Tips for year 8's for alfriston college next year

Alfriston College at first can be really intimidating, but if you know how to avoid all the things that can go wrong, then you'll be fine for your first year at Alfriston College.

Tip #1: Be yourself.
First of all you will find that if you try to be someone you're not or not letting your true self come out, you'll be miserable. Secondly you'll make friends a whole lot faster. Lastly its way easier than keeping up a pretence. You'll get along with people better if you follow these.

Tip #2: Don't be afraid to try new things.
This is what high school is all about. So if you are dying to join a sport or a club don't be afraid. You will see and find that its not as hard as you thought it was. If you're really into it and try your best, you'll probably end up enjoying it. You might even learn something new and definitely have loads of fun! Either way,  Im sure that you'll get something out of it :)

Tip #3: Never come to school late or worse, disorganised.
Being late to school is one thing, and it is not pleasant. To walk into class late isn't that hard, but, when it comes to facing the D.P's when signing in, well lets just say it is not worth it. Especially if you have to make up for the time during your lunch breaks. Not being organised for the days' learning is worse. School is made for learning and if you are not organised then you can't do what you came to school for. If you are disorganized for the day then that can hold you up for your learning. You won't know what information to put on your assessments or have any clue to what to write on up coming tests. Which leads to an imidiate fail or not achieved. I'm sure getting a not achieved will look bad, especially on your first year at High School.

So here it is, three simple tips to a great year of successful learning and great, fun times at A.C. Follow these and no doubt that your first year will be as smooth as butter :)

Letter of Thanks :)

November 15th, 2011

To Miss Tipa
167 Alfriston Road,
Manurewa,
Auckland.

Dear Miss Tipa,

Being a year 9 student at Alfriston College this year, I didn't know what to expect when it came to physical Education or Health. Having you as a teacher is really awesome and being in your class made me realise that I love doing P.E. To be honest I really hated physical Education before I came to this school but that is all forgotten now 'cause I love it.

I had so much fun being in your class and learning a ton of new stuff that you taught us. I understand that to stay healthy i've got to be fit and having fun P.E lessons certainly motivated me. I am now more confident about this subject and also in myself. P.E is now also one of my favourite subjects. Firstly I would like to thank you for being an awesome teacher. Then thank you for making P.E so much fun.  Lastly I would like to thank you for all the hard work you have put in to planning our Physical Education and health classes.

You are such a cool person and a great teacher. P.E this year was a blast :) Ktk hard! Thank you for everything.
I wish you all the best for the future.

Good luck and much love.

Christmas :-)

Christmas is a holiday celebrated every year on the 25th of December. This day is a public holiday all around the world and here in New Zealand every single shop or shopping centre will be closed.

Christmas is celebrated by everyone, aside from the Church of Armenia. It is celebrated in so many different ways world wide. Although they are all very common traditions, e.g; Christmas trees being lighted up and decorated, hanging of wreaths, Christmas stockings, Candy Canes, Christmas cards, Christmas carols sung, Story telling about important figures, exchanging of presents, fasting and/or attending special religious mass'.We celebrate Christmas because it is believed to be the day that Jesus Christ was born with alternative days of January 6, 7, and 19. Historians place his birth between the time of 7BC and 2BC. Although we all have our own beliefs, nobody actually knows the exact birthday of Jesus.

Being a catholic and all, on Christmas day or on Christmas eve, our family goes to church. We remember about how the virgin Mary, assisted by her husband Joseph, conceived Jesus in Bethlehem. As a tradition that we all know, we too decorate a christmas tree, whether real or artificial. We place an angel or star at the very top. This represents the angels or stars on the day Jesus was born.

So every little kid knows that they have to be good all year long to be able to receive a gift from Santa Claus. When I was younger I too believed in those tales. My parents would tell me that on Christmas Eve Santa Claus would come to deliever a gift for me and my brother if we were a good boy and girl. Being young and naive like that seems really stupid now. I remember my brother telling me where our presents were hidden. Plus I'm sure the tales said that Santa Clause came in through a cheminey, which we didn't have. I wonder how my parents would have explained that...

Santa Claus or Father Christmas lives at the North Pole with magical elves, the reindeers; dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and Rudolf, and of course Mrs Claus. The elves help Santa make the toys to be delived by a flying sleigh pulled by the reindeers, to the good kids on Christmas Eve, according to a tradition which can be traced back to the 1820's.

Christmas is a joyful, traditional holiday that you spend with your loved ones. Merry Christmas everyone:)

If I was in charge of our school...

If I was in charge of our school I would...

I would not only have whanau competitions but also class competitions. This would occur during lunchtimes or P.E sessions and students will have to wear P.E uniforms. These competitions would involve sports and challenges. This would be for year 9's only. It would be a great way for them to meet and bond with other students from others classes. Knowing other students from other classes would also be extremely helpful for year 9's when they become year 10's they could benefit from that because they will already know the students they are with already when they change classes every period which makes the start of the year easier and less stressful for them.

If I was in charge of our school I would add a swimming pool so that students could learn how to swim. Our school could then also be involved in swimming competitions with other schools. Our community could also benefit from our swimming pool during the summer or school holidays. It would be a positive feature for our school, but we would also need a lifeguard where senior students could apply for if they need a job.

If I was in charge of our school I would make the lunchtimes longer than 30 minutes so that the whanau and class competitions will be longer and students will have enough time to get back to class on time. Also so that students could do extra things during this time, especially seniors who would need it the most for exam preparations or their busy schedules.

Term 3 holidays :)

My holidays

Last term was very full on and we had a lot of homework and I couldn't wait until the holidays because school was stressing me out. I would always come home from school to prepare for the next day even though I was always tired and just wanted to sleep. So the best part of my holidays would definitely be relaxing. I enjoyed sleeping in and sitting on the couch with my family and watching the rugby every weekend. It was also fun just hanging out with my friends, especially the ones who I haven't seen or talked to in a while. Although now the holidays are nearly over and I can't wait to get the next/last term of the year over and done with so that I can have fun in the summer holidays :)

The internet is a dangerous place

The Internet is a dangerous place but I believe that when used safely and correctly it proves to be helpful and useful.

When roaming the Internet you will find that its a very powerful tool and sometimes in a not so positive way.  Even though it is a great place to meet new people, and keep in touch with others it can develop to cause negative things that not only you can see but also everybody else who is your friend. Cyberbullying is a common issue that young people are having in the 21st century due to socializing sites being very popular. A great tip to having a safe place on socializing sites is to be sure to choose your friends carefully and if you don't make sure to unfriend and block them immediately so that they do not keep making your socializing space a negative place.

Having Internet around young children can influence their knowledge of things in so many ways. It makes everything so much funner and easier to have these days, but what if they accidentally access something inappropriate? Of course this can all happen at a click of a button. What are you gonna do? No worries you can always block these inappropriate websites with these easy steps:
1. Load your Internet explorer
2. Click Tools
3. Click Internet Options
4. Click the Privacy tab
5. Under the Privacy window, Click Sites
6. Type in the site address that you want to Block and Click OK. Remember this technique only blocks on one site at a time. Parental control software will allow you to block multiple sites and categories.

The Internet is such a helpful and useful place to be all the time whether its to do with doing your homework or even doing your shopping. Its really easy and can save you so much time. So how can that be dangerous? But you never know at a touch of a button you can suddenly end up having a virus that can destroy your computer in seconds. So be sure to recognise fake ads or anything you think might look weird. Don't believe everything you see on it because you never know whats gonna happen or where its gonna make you end up.

My conclusion is that the Internet can be 100% safe if you know how it works and how to use it. Plus its super helpful in multiple ways :)

2nd Review Writing - Amazing Race (australia)

Amazing Race Australia.

Today's episode of Amazing Race Australia was hilarious. The teams were heading for a challenge and a heap of hard work in South Africa.  First of all Richard and Joey got stuck in the mud, he hammered his thumb and to top it all off they got U-turned by Nathan & Tyler. I felt sorry for them considering that everyone hates them.

The farmers got stopped by the cops for speeding. Meanwhile the team that was always behind; Mos & Mo finally built their feeding giraffe thing. As the teams encounted their next obstacle, they looked like they were all having fun bungee jumping from the highest bridge in the world! I thought that Sam & Renae had the best teamwork. They worked well together and completed the tasks and challenges cleverly.

As the race went on, Nathan & Tyler were speeding towards the mat against the farmers. Unfortunately for Nathan & Tyler, the farmers were named the first team to arrive. Alana & Mel were so funny and clueless throughout the whole thing. Eventually they were the seventh team to arrive. At the last minute it came down to Richard & Joey and Mos & Mo. Luck was on Mos & Mo's side, unlike Richard & Joey's. They ended up being the last team to arrive. Overall it was a very entertaining episode of Amazing Race Australia (:

Review writing - Twilight the graphic novel volume 1 (:

Twilight The Graphic Novel Volume 1.

This book is written by Stephenie Meyer with the help of Young Kim who illustrated the art and done the adaptation. The graphic novel;Twilight is a hard covered comic book, great for Twilight lovers who are not bothered to read the actual book and specially for the ones that like pictures.

The front cover tells it all. You can tell by looking at it that the book will be awesome without even opening it. Once inside its a whole new world with Edward Cullen and his familly. Soon enough Bella will discover her love for Edward and what he really is. She will know and understand that her place in the world is now with him.

Volume 1 is a summary of the special events that has happened in the first half of Twilight e.g the Car crash, meeting Jacob, seeing what edward looks like in the sun and lots more. Its a great way of retelling the story. Easy to read and understand which is good for young Twilight fans. It is fast to read and if you ask me the illustrations can't get any better .I think that Stephenie Meyer and Young Kim did a fantastic job. I just hope that volume 2 is just as amazing(:
